PILATES goal is to restore posture. It is a body conditioning routine that helps build flexibility, muscle strength, and endurance in the legs, abdominal, arms, hips, and back. It puts emphasis on spinal and pelvic alignment, breathing, and developing a strong core or center, and improving coordination and balance. We teach from the Classical Pilates method where exercise is taught with a unique and dynamic rhythm and progression. Ultimately thru practice the exercises are mindfully done with control and precision. The Pilates method seeks to develop controlled movement from a strong core and it does this using a range of mat exercises to apparatus.
At SPP we currently offer small group Mat Pilates with a variety of props as well as Private Reformer and tower sessions. Learning the basic principles on the mat translates to all apparatus work. The Pilates' system allows for different exercises to be modified in range of difficulty from beginning to advanced. Intensity can be increased over time as the body conditions and adapts to the exercises. Pilates improves muscle tone, balances musculature, supports correct posture, and teaches to move with ease and grace. Making for a better body!
BARRE blends yoga, Pilates and ballet-inspired barre work in a high-energy, core-strengthening workout that isolates muscle groups. Our method is based on the Barre Fit , a Lotte Berk system, which is highly complementary to Pilates and Yoga. Barre transforms bodies, creating long, lean muscles, while increasing endurance and flexibility.
